Jean Buchanan

Jean gained a BA(hons) in Fine Art Sculpture from Exeter College of Art and Design.

She went on to teach Art at secondary level, eventually becoming Head of the Expressive Arts Faculty.

During her time as a teacher, she continued to create her own work, making sculptures of animals, from equestrian studies to her more recent interest in Deerhounds, which has sprung from a close association with the breed – the family have had deerhounds for over 25 years!

She has also sculpted other sporting dogs, such as Spaniels, Labradors, Retrievers, and recently a Greyhound. Whatever animal she sculpts, her aim is to capture a split second of movement, and endeavours to bring the spirit of the animal alive.

Over the years, as well as exhibiting her work in local galleries, she has shown her work in Bath, Bristol, Newmarket and the Mall Galleries in London.

Her sculptures have been sold all over the world, from America and Canada, and to many countries in Europe.

She lives in a little village on the edge of Dartmoor, in the Southwest of England and now retired, is able to spend more time in her studio, and is looking forward to trying out more ideas, including getting back to some more equestrian studies.

Commission's & Purchase

Lead Time and ordering a sculpture

It normally takes around 3 weeks to produce a Bronze Resin, and around 6 weeks to produce a Bronze. These times will be longer if there are several orders coming in at once. Jean will be able to advise you more accurately at the time of ordering.

To help towards the cost of production, a 50% deposit at the time of ordering is required, with the balance being due on completion.

UK Deliveries

Personal delivery by Jean: -
It sometimes makes more sense for Jean to deliver a vulnerable sculpture in resin – or heavy sculpture in bronze – personally. UK only I’m afraid!! First 100 miles free (includes return journey so in effect, 200 miles).
Each 10 miles travelled after that = £1.20

Parcel Post or Courier Delivery in the Uk

This is very much done on an individual basis, as each sculpture has different requirements. Cost depends on size and weight, and whether insurance is required.
There are some Bronze Resin sculptures that would not suit a normal Parcel post. We can source other options for you, or we are very happy to help with delivery personally where practical.

Overseas Deliveries

Bronze Resin can be vulnerable, no matter how well it is packaged. Only the smallest of the sculptures in Bronze Resin would be suitable for delivery overseas.
We have however, successfully exported Bronze sculptures to the USA, Canada and Europe.
Again, prices for shipping depend on 3 factors:

  1. Size
  2. Weight
  3. Value (if insurance is required)

We would work together to find the best options and provide you with quotes before finalising your order.

Thank you very much for your enquiry, it is great to know that you like my work.
